With Malay Islamic Monarchy as Brunei Darussalam’s state philosophy, the teaching of Islam plays an important role within the administrative system of the country, on top of shaping the culture and the country’s way of life. Therefore, themes revolving around the teaching of Islam are very relevant to be featured in Brunei MYCE 2021.

FOREST

About 70 percent of Brunei Darussalam is still covered in lush tropical rainforest that is rich in biodiversity, giving Brunei an advantage in forestry with their broad experience and expertise on this field.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

The Fourth Industrial Revolution not only affects a society’s way of life but it also creates opportunities for entrepreneurs. In line with Brunei Darussalam’s efforts to achieve a digital transformation, focus should be given to the cultivation and application of digital technology in the community, as well as promoting business opportunities in the digital technology sector.

ENERGY

Brunei Darussalam has achieved success in the oil and gas sector for more than 90 years. It demonstrates the country’s experience and technical expertise in the field of exploration, drilling and extraction, processing and production of oil and gas. The challenges and strategies of oil and gas-producing countries can be shared and studied for the development of a clean and sustainable energy source.

FORUM: EMPOWERING WAQF TOWARDS THE COUNTRY’S PROSPERITY

DATE: 1 June 2021

VENUE: Main Conference Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC).

SYNOPSIS: The forum will discuss the concept and empowerment of waqf towards the improvement of the societal welfare, providing a clear distinction between waqf and sadaqah (charity). Some of the key topics that will be covered include acts and policies governing waqf, types of waqf and policy recommendations to waqf authorities and all the relevant parties, especially on the types of waqf that need to be introduced in accordance to the principle of Maqasid Al-Sharia’.

BRUNEI DARUSSALAM ISLAMIC CAPITAL MARKET (BICAM) CONFERENCE 2021

DATE: 2 – 3 June 2021

VENUE: Musyawarah Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC).

SYNOPSIS: Among of the objectives of the conference are to discuss relevant issues and challenges in the development of Islamic capital market especially in the context of Brunei Darussalam and the strategies pertinent to promote the resiliency, sustainability and inclusivity of an Islamic capital market ecosystem as well as to share experiences of countries on the impact of capital market on economic growth. BICAM2021 is also intended to be a platform to feature Bruneian talents on their credibility and knowledge in the Islamic capital market sector.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FIQH AL-ZAKAT EDUCATION

SYNOPSIS: The conference will discuss the empowerment of Zakat from the Islamic Law perspective. Among the key topics that will be presented and discussed include the role of zakat, issues and challenges related to zakat; and recommendations for improved zakat management, collection and distribution.

THE 10TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ISLAM IN MALAY WORLD (ICON-IMAD X)

DATE: 2 – 3 June 2021

VENUE: Press Conference Hall, ICC

SYNOPSIS: International Conference on Islam in Malay World (ICON-IMAD X) is an annual conference organised by four universities representing the Malay regions namely, the Sunan Gunung Djati State Islamic University Bandung, Indonesia; the University of Malaya, Malaysia; the Prince Songkla University, Thailand and the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, Negara Brunei Darussalam. This year’s theme is “Embracing Islam in a Malay, Contemporary Era”. ICON-IMAD is a platform for dialogue and discussion pivoted on research results related to Malay and Islam done by academics, leaders and experts in Southeast Asia. In addition, the conference will also share issues and challenges faced by the Malay World in upholding the Muslim identity especially in the contemporary era. Sub-themes of the conference include: the Qur’an and the Hadith, Islamic faith and thinking, Tasawwuf, Islamic history and civilisation, human development and da’wah, the Malay language and literature, agriculture, Islamic education and more.

BRUNEI DARUSSALAM CONFERENCE ON FOREST – “FORESTS AND BIODIVERSITY: UNVEILING ITS ECONOMIC POTENTIAL”

DATE: 10 – 11 June 2021

SYNOPSIS: This conference explores the opportunities for green economic growth through the commercialisation of forest biodiversity such as downstream timber industry, eco-tourism and more. It aims to create R&D opportunities in the field of forestry, biodiversity and conservation, and act as a platform to share information and success stories to the public.

BRUNEI DARUSSALAM CONFERENCE ON AGRICULTURE – “AGRICULTURAL SECTOR: CHALLENGES & WAY FORWARD”

SYNOPSIS: Agriculture is an important sector to Brunei Darussalam’s economic growth and attainment of food self-sufficiency. The discussion will revolve around the issues and challenges related to agriculture and strategies to overcome them. Speakers and panelists, the majority of whom are the key players in the industry will also share their experiences and thoughts on what seem to be important in shaping the future of agricultural sector in Brunei. The forum will also talk about strategies to increase production and productivity through the use of modern technologies and farming techniques.

LOW-CODE COMPETITION

SYNOPSIS: Low-code helps enterprises deliver custom applications for new digital initiatives caused by abrupt market changes and new business needs. Dynamik Technologies is excited to introduce Outsystems, a Gartner Magic Quadrant 2020 Leader in Enterprise Low Code, in a session aimed to create more awareness on the potential of low code development in Brunei. CYBER BATTLE: CAPTURE THE FLAG 2021 COMPETITION

SYNOPSIS: Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag (CTF), a cyber security competition which aims to highlight the importance of cyber security, and the increasing need for information security specialists in Brunei Darussalam. Participants will attempt to solve challenges in a variety of real-life scenarios, in a race against time to obtain ‘flags’ and submit them on the CTF scoring server.

DECOMMISSIONING AND RESTORATION FORUM

DATE: 28 June 2021

VENUE: Musyawarah hall, International Convention Centre (ICC).

SYNOPSIS: In 2017, the Ministry of Energy introduced the National E&P Guideline for Decommissioning and Restoration (D&R) of  Upstream Industry, with the objective to ensure consistent approach for all operators in Managing their late life operations.

Currently, more than 200 offshore structures, over 1,000 wells, over 1,500 km length of pipelines as well as offshore facilities from upstream industries to be decommissioned in the next 20-30 years.

The objective of this Forum is to bring participants onboard on the D&R activities including the potential spin-off industries that can be generated from it.

The Forum is open to all Government Agencies including Statutory Bodies, Oil & Gas operators, service providers and higher education institutions.

RENEWABLE ENERGY POLICY AND DEVELOPMENT FORUM

SYNOPSIS: The key objective of this Forum is to present the renewable energy policy and development road map and facilitate stakeholder discussions on the preferred policy instruments. The Forum also presents experiences of industry early movers as well as perspectives from the academe.

To promote and spread awareness of the benefits of using natural and renewable resources to create eco-friendly energy while coexisting with oil and gas industry.

SOLAR ENERGY TOURS

DATE: 26 & 30 June 2021

In order to promote and spread awareness of the benefits of using natural and renewable resources to create eco-friendly energy, a visit to Tenaga Suria Brunei (Brunei’s first solar photovoltaic plant), and Suria Energy Lab (the latest solar attraction in Brunei), will be held in partnership with Mitsubishi Corporation and Green Brunei. Registration is now open for students in secondary and tertiary levels.
